Help Desk: Canadian Form T3010 Top Search Examples



To help you locate important information within the Canadian T3010, we have provided samples of some of the most significant search requests. These examples show you precisely how you can locate the information you need. In all examples, the text must be entered without the quotation marks.

Please note that these are examples only and that your results will vary depending on your particular search. Also, your particular interest in the foundation who's Form T3010 you are researching will influence what information you may consider significant.

1. How can I locate foundations based in a certain city or area?

1. How can I locate foundations based in a certain city or area?

To narrow your search to include organizations that are based in a specific city or area, you would use the following example in your search request: "Identification w/30 Winnipeg". This request would provide a list of foundation forms which contain the word "Winnipeg" within the "Section A. Identification" field.

2. How do I find foundations with a particular funding interest?

By using the codes assigned to the various "Fields of Interest" by CCRA, you can streamline your search to include those foundations whose interest's focus on your particular cause. As an example, to locate foundations that emphasizes on supporting "children and youth services/housing" (field A8), you would enter the following search: "Field Code w/20 A8". For your convenience we have attached an image of the "Fields" section from the Form T3010.

3.How can I locate specific funding recipients, either individuals or groups?

To locate specific beneficiaries of funding using "Section H. Gifts to Qualified Donees" (or the attached documentation), your search would include the following text, (which should be altered to your meet your specific criteria): "Name of donee w/200 hospital". This request would locate documents which include the word "hospital" in the list of qualified donees.

4. Is there a way to locate an individual Director or Trustee by name?

If you would like to create a list of foundations that contain the particular name of a board member (that is to say a Director or Trustee), your search request would be similar to the following example: "Full name w/100 Sylvia Johnson". The resulting search would include all foundations with the name "Sylvia Johnson" on the list of Directors & Trustees.

5. Can I search for new foundations?

Making connections early in the funding cycle of a foundation can help to establish your organization as a recipient. A5, Line 009 is marked yes when a newly formed foundation completes its first return. The following search example will result in providing you with a list of foundations who answered yes on line 009: "009 w/1 X".

6. Is there a way to search for the foundation's fiscal year end?

Knowing when a new year of granting begins or capitalizing on what remains left in a budget near the end of a fiscal year is relevant prospect research information. Line 002 of page 1 contains the foundation's fiscal year end. A fiscal year is the 12 months covered by the foundation's financial statements. To create a search resulting in a list of foundations whose fiscal year ends in September, enter the following search criteria: "002 w/6 09".

7.Is there a way to search for organizations with a history of giving outside of Canada?

If international prospect research is your interest, line 023 of section C3 is where to look, "Were any of these programs, directly or indirectly outside Canada?". To retrieve a list of or organizations that answered yes on line 023, your search request would be: "023 w/1 X".

8.Does the foundation report if they have a Web Site?

Next to "Section A. Information" is a field titled "Charity's Web site address". To retrieve forms with an entry in this field, enter the following search query: "web site address w/4 www". Providing this information is optional for the filing foundation so if this field is left blank, it does not necessarily indicate that they do not maintain a web site.
